Idyllic Summer Engagement Session at the Eibsee
The Eibsee is one of those spots I just can’t get enough of. Despite being a tourist hot-spot, with the right amount of planning and preparation, the Eibsee makes the most magical location for engagement sessions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Exploring with Kelsea + Will on this particular warm summer evening was nothing short of perfect.
The pair, both American, met while working in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. There’s a large American community in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, making it an easy place for US citizens to find a little slice of home in the town.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen Mountain Engagement
Kelsea and Will have been traveling, hiking, and exploring Europe ever since they got together. When Will proposed, he did it on top of the Hoher Fricken – a mountain in the nearby town of Farchant. Kelsea and Will braved the cold, a dark hike through the night, and over 4,000 feet of elevation gain to reach the summit. It snowed off and on throughout their hike, making it even more of a feat to accomplish. At the top, Will took Kelsea completely by surprise and pulled out a ring!
When I heard about the two’s engagement, I immediately reached out (we all worked for the same company, but didn’t know each other personally). Any couple who chooses to get engaged on a mountain-top sounds like my kind of people! Kelsea and Will wanted to get engagement photos done really soon, because Will had an opportunity waiting for him back in the States, and would be moving within a week or so. Kelsea would join him shortly afterward.
Planning Your Photography Session at the Eibsee
We arranged the details of the Eibsee engagement session within a matter of a few days. Being a Garmisch-Partenkirchen local made the planning easy. The Eibsee can be very busy during the summer, so we made sure we were prepared. Parking can be one of the biggest challenges. I also had some quieter spots along the lake scoped out for the session so there was plenty of space to relax. The evening of their engagement session, we talked like old friends. Will and Kelsea are so easy-going. Their laid-back personalities and carefree attitudes made the shoot nothing short of a treat! We spent an hour-in-a-half walking around the lake and soaking up the scenery before packing up to leave. After leaving the Eibsee, we drove 15 minutes down the road to a nearby grassy meadow for a few more photos and to enjoy the last rays of daylight.
