While most couples avoid eloping in the wilder, more rugged parts of the Swiss Alps, Taylor + Austin’s elopement may have you changing your mind.
This region straddling the famed Bernese Alps is rockier than the classic Swiss scenery most couples picture, but the dramatic views more than make up for it. And, we’ve found, even in the most rugged areas, there are wildflowers tucked between the rocks and bursts of green (oh, and not to mention, you’ll find more privacy and seclusion in places like this).
Taylor + Austin are Hoosiers, like me (they actually grew up about 10 minutes from where I spent part of my childhood 💛), and there’s something extra fun about sharing the Alps with people from the flatlands who truly understand how completely unreal it all feels. When you grow up with cornfields as far as the eye can see, it’s still hard to believe mountains and places like this exist.
The week Taylor + Austin eloped, the Alps were experiencing record heat. Lucky for us, they were eloping in a higher-altitude region, which meant (slightly) cooler temperatures. Even with the hot weather, we still had to pull out our puffies as the sun began to dip lower in the sky. Mountain life always keeps things interesting.
While the whole day was a dream, from first looks near their hotel with the prettiest view, to cake next to a lake, letters from family and friends, and a magical ibex sighting right at sunset one part that particularly stands out is the funicular ride.
These two are daredevils, having bungee jumped and sky-dived….but the angle on one of Europe’s steepest funiculars will get you every time.
Scott and I had a blast capturing these two from start to finish – it’s days like these you forget you’re even at work. 🥰
This Swiss Alps elopement included a mix of high alpine views, mountain tops, and an alpine lake with both easy access and hiking-only views. The best of both worlds to get variety, while also experiencing a ceremony in seclusion. You can check out Taylor + Austin’s timeline overview below.
”One of the best things we can say about our elopement is that not only did we end up with the most breathtaking photos and videos, but the entire day itself was absolutely perfect because we had Christine and Scott by our side. They captured every moment while also helping create an experience we’ll never forget. As a fun bonus, Christine grew up in the same area I did, which made it feel like it was meant to be from the beginning!
Working with Christine and Scott was such a great experience. They listened to our ideas, got genuinely excited about our vision, and somehow brought it to life even better than we imagined. We weren’t exactly sure where in Switzerland we wanted to elope, but they helped us narrow down the perfect location that felt like us. Throughout the entire planning process, they were communicative, shared helpful travel tips, answered every question we had, and made everything feel easy and stress-free.
When the day finally arrived, everything felt effortless. Christine and Scott made us feel completely comfortable in front of the camera—it honestly felt like we were spending the day adventuring with friends. They struck the perfect balance of guiding us when we needed it while giving us space to simply be present with each other. Each location they chose felt unique, intentional, and perfectly reflected the adventure we had envisioned.
If you’re considering working with Made in the Mountains, don’t hesitate. You’ll have guidance every step of the way, two amazing people cheering you on throughout the process, and the most incredible photos and film to remember one of the best days of your life.”
