Two days, and two completely opposite ends of the weather spectrum made for some of the most memorable elopements in Switzerland we’ve ever documented. 😍 Add in the spectacular glaciers of Valais, and it was truly one-of-a-kind.
Micaela + Chris, Canadians who were no strangers to mountains, were looking for an adventure that had a little bit of everything. The pressure was on to find the right combination of scenery that would wow them. In the end, that led to us planning a quiet hike to an alpine lake, big mountain views, and a sunrise high in the alpine (complete with glaciers).
Day one brought sun-soaked skies, a cozy getting ready and first looks at their secluded chalet, blueberry bushes lining the trail up to their ceremony location (I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get slightly sidetracked eating them on the way up), and gold-colored mountainsides. Despite the heat on the hike, a breeze blew at the lake, making Micaela’s dress dramatically whip in the wind. By the time we got back down to the cars, rain began to fall.
Day two felt like a bit of a gamble…but ultimately, it paid off. We hiked up in the dark toward a summit with rain on the radar (despite a forecast for dry weather) and no idea exactly what would unfold. Mist thickened along the way, and when we reached the top, we were fully in a cloud. I could see the clouds thinning above, and as the sun started to rise, suddenly it was as if the heavens opened. I might have lost my mind (just a little bit).
Throughout the rest of day two, we explored the mountain, clouds rolling in and out…but we waited patiently, and every time the view opened up, we couldn’t help but be left in awe.
Truly, what a wild and incredible two days getting married in Switzerland.
Chris + Micaela booked a two-day adventure for their Switzerland elopement. They wanted to hike, get a good mixture of both alpine lakes and mountain tops, stargaze, and just have *time* to truly enjoy exploring the epic scenery Valais has to offer. In the end, they got a bit of everything. You can check out Chris + Micaela’s elopement timeline overview below.
Day 1:
Day 2
”Wow. What can I say. We hired Christine and Scott about a year and a half before our elopement, and looking back, it was one of the best decisions we made.
Christine was involved from the very beginning and helped us with so much more than photography. She helped us pick locations, planned our timeline, helped figure out the hikes and logistics, and honestly took a lot of the stress off my plate. Planning an elopement in Switzerland from across the world felt a lot less overwhelming knowing we had her helping us through it.
Then we finally got to Switzerland and met them in person, and it just clicked. They made us feel so comfortable and by the end of the two days, it honestly felt like we had known them for years. We really feel like we made two friends on the other side of the world.
They put so much into our days. They brought coffee, snacks and props, and on our first hike, they carried my heavy dress bag up the mountain so Chris didn’t have to carry it with all of our other gear. We hiked around 20 km with them over the two days, and they never once made us feel like we were asking too much.
The weather didn’t exactly cooperate with us either, but they were so flexible. We moved our second day around and spent a ridiculous amount of time waiting for the right clouds and inversion. I honestly think a lot of people would have eventually called it, but Christine and Scott were just as determined as we were to get the shots we had dreamed about.
And the photos and teaser film? Incredible. They captured so many little moments that we didn’t even realize were happening, and looking through them brings us right back to those days.
This was a big investment for us, and we genuinely feel like it was worth every penny. Christine and Scott went so far above and beyond, and we couldn’t have asked for better people to be there with us. We would absolutely recommend Made in the Mountains Photo to anyone planning an elopement or wedding.”
