Hiking Under the Stars: A Secluded Sunrise Elopement in the Dolomites

A slow sunrise elopement in the Dolomites – does it get any more magical than this? 

Alecia + Andrew eloped in early September surrounded by what can only be described as utterly majestic mountain views. Even better, they had the whole place to themselves. These two were willing to hike, wanted privacy, and were even open to sunrise (OUR FAVORITE) and that all came together to create something peaceful and intentional.

They had been planning for well over a year, and during the course of that, we cycled through a couple iterations of what would look + feel most like them. Most importantly, they didn’t want to feel rushed. 

Part of that plan involved hiking underneath the stars on a gently moonlit night. Drinking tea while eating a couple of pastries, waiting for the sun to slowly rise up and over the massive summits in front of us. It was then, that the pair exchanged vows, warmed by early September light. 

Watching the day wake up is one of our favorite elopement experiences, and it’s even more special to share with couples who have never done anything like that before. The dark can feel scary…but it can also be incredibly peaceful and beautiful. 

As mountain weather tends to do, what started out as a chilly morning quickly turned into a very warm and sunny day. It was hard to believe just a few hours earlier we had been shivering. We all swapped our puffies for sunscreen and sunglasses 😅

These two were truly delightful humans. They’ve known each other since they were kids (but didn’t begin dating until adults). It’s seeing love like this that reminds me how beautiful life can be – getting to capture both photo and video for these two was a true honor and something special 💛

Dolomites Sunrise Elopement Timeline

This secluded sunrise hiking elopement in the Dolomites included two locations. Their first was the mountain top ceremony location, and the second, a picturesque valley surrounded by forest and towering peaks. You can check out Alecia + Andrew’s elopement timeline overview below. 

• 4:30 am – Meet at the trailhead in *hiking clothes*. Hike + stargaze along the way.
• 6:00 am – Arrive at the ceremony location. Change into wedding attire. Drink tea and enjoy pastries as the world wakes up. First looks on the mountain.
• 7:45 am – Vows as the sun rises above the mountain. Snacks, exploring, soaking up the EPICNESS of this place! 
• 9:15 am – Hike back to the cars (stay in wedding attire). 
• 9:45 am- Arrive back at the trailhead/cars. Drive to trailhead of location #2.
• 9:45 am – Arrive at the trailhead. Exploring the valley.
• 1:00 pm – Wrapping up and saying goodbyes.
