Aaron and Danguole kept their elopement plans simple: have a relaxed wedding day, explore somewhere peaceful in the mountains, and soak up the quaint charm of Appenzell, Switzerland. And honestly? That’s exactly what they did.
We started the morning hiking up the side of a mountain, cowbells ringing in the distance as we climbed at what times, felt straight up. We were grateful for the partly cloudy skies that kept temperatures cool compared to the recent heatwave. While the ascent was hard, theses two crushed it. After changing into their wedding attire on the mountain, they shared first looks among mountain meadows. Then, it was time to exchange vows.
While we had hoped to avoid wind, the weather had other plans in mind. Danguole’s dress whipped around dramatically in the best kind of way each time the breeze picked up during their ceremony. After an emotional exchange, the pair took shots of local Appenzeller spirits and soaked up the views. From there, we hiked to one of Appenzell’s more iconic spots and enjoyed the lake with numerous other day-trippers.
The day flew by quickly, and before we knew it, it was time to wander back into town. Here, Aaron + Danguole changed outfits and cozied up at a bar to share beers. It’s tradition for them to enjoy a drink while traveling, and it felt like the perfect way to end their wedding.
Their whole experience felt so them – adventurous, carefree, and full of fun surprises, such as landscapes that felt like home. It was a memorable celebration in one of the most charming parts of Switzerland, and I can’t imagine a better way to get married.
Shoutout to each amazing couple who flies across the ocean and trusts me to document their one-of-a-kind mountain elopement in the Alps. It’s a dream come true 🥰
This adventure elopement in Appenzell included one hike with multiple scenic spots. That way, they could enjoy a varied landscape without the fuss. You can check out Aaron + Danguole’s elopement timeline overview below.
This ceremony location is not possible to photograph elopements at anymore. There are many other *amazing* lesser-known spots I’d love to help you celebrate at in this region for your Appenzell hiking elopement, though.

”I cannot say enough good things! Christine made our day so easy, so smooth, so fun and memorable. Her thorough scouting and knowledge of really special places is encyclopedic–we loved how she walked us through different options and helped us choose something that felt perfect. We also wanted to wrap up our evening in town and grab some photos out and about/in a bar—she really went above and beyond in coordinating that, communicating with different establishments, and ensuring we got exactly what we’d hoped for. She’s a really versatile, talented photographer and editor with an excellent eye and great sense for posed photography as well as a more documentary, editorial style. She’s communicative, professional, easygoing, and really loves what she does (the best kind of person to work with in any scenario). She overdelivered way beyond our expectations–we especially appreciated getting a sneak peek the next day (!!) to spam our families with. It would have been special enough without the photos as is–but the photos were INCREDIBLE and her vision is unmatched. We (and our friends and family) have been ooh-ing and aah-ing ever since. Thank you Christine!”
